PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructor Recertification Course

The Northeast Alabama Law Enforcement Academy is presenting a 24-hour PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructor Recertification Course. The course will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Academy.

The tuition for this course includes instructor manuals, handouts and refreshments.

The goal of this instructor course is to identify and test principles that can be employed by law enforcement officers when the need for subject control techniques arises. This class will also present to the student instructor the knowledge and techniques needed to enable him/her to instruct these same principles and tactics to other law enforcement officers.

The objectives of this course are as follows:

  • Teach officers to defend against common resistance.
  • Teach techniques of subject control to gain compliance with the least chance of injury to the subject, but with the officer's safety as the most important factor.
  • Teach techniques with impact weapons that will be aimed at impeding a subject by striking areas with a lesser chance of causing permanent damage or severe injury to the offender.
  • Teach techniques for defending against an attack on the weapon while it is holstered or drawn, and techniques for disarming a subject who is holding the officer at gunpoint.
  • Reduce the need to use excessive force in controlling a subject, thereby reducing liability.
  • Instill in officers the self-confidence to defend themselves against an attack.
  • Teach officers the knowledge, skills, and techniques they need in order to teach the above objectives to other officers.
Subject areas that will be covered in this course include:
  • Survival Learning Theory
  • Principles of Control
  • Handcuffing
  • Joint Manipulations
  • Pressure Points
  • Defensive Counterstrikes
  • Vascular Neck Restraints
  • Impact Weapons (Straight & Expandable Batons)
